With the abundance of survey sites out there, it’s difficult to determine which ones actually pay well. Most of them claim that you can easily earn hundreds per month when in reality it’s merely a few dollars.
We’re going to break down Opinion Outpost, one of the more popular survey sites on the web.
In this Opinion Outpost review, you’ll find out how much you can earn, whether it’s worth your time and if it’s a scam or not.
Table of Contents
What Is Opinion Outpost?
As mentioned above, Opinion Outpost is a rewards site that pays you to take surveys online. Currently, the survey site is only available to those residing in the US. Registration is 100% free.
Each time you complete a survey, you’re given a certain amount of points. These points can be exchanged for real cash prizes such as gift cards to popular retailers, direct deposits to PayPal and more.
Opinion Outpost aims to close the gap between what you really think and the companies that need your opinion. When you fill out a survey, companies are essentially paying for your answers. This helps improve their products and services.
Opinion Outpost has a long-standing reputation as is part of the popular survey company Survey Sampling International.
Keep in mind that all information you submit is kept completely anonymous. In other words, there’s no way to link the answers you provide back to you.

You’ll be notified when new surveys are available by email so you don’t have to be constantly checking their website for updates.
Keep in mind that you must reside in North America or Europe to participate in Opinion Outpost. At this time, they are not planning to expand to other countries.
How Much Can I Make With Opinion Outpost?
The amount you can earn with Opinion Outpost entirely depends on the amount of effort you put into it. Obviously, the more surveys you take, the more you can earn.
1 point is worth 10 cents, and you need a minimum of 30 points ($3 USD) to cash out. The great thing I love about Opinion Outpost is that you’re always told how much you’ll earn and how long a survey takes before you actually take it.
From the image below, we can see that we can take a 5-minute survey and earn 5 Opinion Points. This means that for 5 minutes of your time, you’re earning $.50 cents. This calculates to a rate of just $6 per hour.
Also keep in mind that this is just one survey example. However, I usually find the rates to be around this amount. Sometimes you may get lucky and find a 5-minute survey and earn 10 Opinion Points. This means you can earn at a rate $12/hour.
Is This Amount Worth It?
If you’re earning at a rate of $6/hour, definitely not, especially considering the amount abundant survey sites of out there. However, I usually find that the amount of time needed is quite accurate. 5 minutes usually means 2-3 minutes.
Not only that, but I find that if I stick to high-paying surveys I can earn around $12 – $13 per hour. Unfortunately, these seem to be few and far between.
For these reasons, we’ve calculated the average earnings around $10 per hour. And most importantly, do not expect Opinion Outpost to replace your full-time income.
On average, I typically find that most surveys take about 15 minutes to complete. Opinion Outpost does their best to match surveys to your given demographics. This not only makes the questions more relevant to you, but also more fun and entertaining.

The Amount of Surveys is Limited
Even if you can earn at an honest rate of $8 per hour, you’re not going to be earning this amount consistently. There’s only a limited amount of surveys available.
As mentioned above, the great thing about Opinion Outpost is that you don’t have to log-in checking for new offers. You’ll receive an email notification of new eligible surveys.
You Earn More Than Just Opinion Points
Surveys typically award more than just surveys. You also usually get 1 prize draw entry that can be used to enter a sweepstakes. This typically includes entry to their quarterly drawing of $10,000 USD.
What Are Some Tips When Taking Surveys?
Although you can essentially answer anything you want when taking surveys with Opinion Outpost, it’s important to be as honest as possible.
This is mainly because you risk getting your account banned if you frequently provide inconsistent answers. Therefore, here’s a quick list of things to keep in mind while taking surveys.
- Take your time. Don’t be in a rush and fill out information accurately. Not only will this keep answers consistent, but you’ll enjoy the surveys more.
- Avoid abbreviations. For questions that have you fill in the blank, just be sure to use the appropriate language.
- One survey at a time. Opinion Outpost doesn’t like it when you take more than one survey at a time. Finish one before starting the other.

While these rules may seem a bit strict, you’ll soon find that it’s worth it. Opinion Outpost is one of the more popular survey sites out there, and their high payout rate definitely shows it.
How Do I Get Started With Opinion Outpost?
Getting started with Opinion Outpost is incredibly simple. However, we’re going to walk you through the process step by step so that you don’t miss any details.
1. Register.
You can register for Opinion Outpost for free by clicking this link here. You’ll need to fill out your name, email and to create a password, or you can join using Facebook, LinkedIn or Google Plus social media accounts. Once this is done, don’t forget to confirm your email.
2. Fill out some personal information and take a welcome survey.
Click the link in your email to be directed to your profile page. Be sure to answer this information as accurately as possible, as the answers you provide will determine your future surveys.
Once you finish filling out a bit of personal information, you’ll be asked to take a welcome survey. Again, this is important to see what future surveys Opinion Outpost should give you, so be sure to be as accurate as possible. You get 5 ($.50 cents USD) points for completing your first survey.
One big complaint about this survey site is that depending on your answers, the welcome survey may take some time.
3. Start taking surveys.
Once you finish filling out your first survey, you’ll be eligible to start taking surveys of your choice. I typically find it not worthwhile to log-in to check for new surveys since they send email notifications.
As mentioned above, be sure to take your time. If Opinion Outpost finds that you are providing inconsistent information, they may suspend your account.
4. Cash out.
You only need a minimum of 30 Opinion Points ($3 USD) to cash out. Your can exchange your points for gift cards or direct deposits to PayPal. Keep in mind that if you do cash out to PayPal you need a minimum of 100 points ($10). While it may take a few days to receive your rewards, I usually get them in my inbox within just a few minutes.
5. Participate in Drawings.
Most of the time you’ll find that Opinion Outpost pays you points and an entry to a sweepstakes upon the completion of each survey. Often times these are quarterly drawings that include up to $10,000 in cash.
6. Refer a Friend.
Referring a friend is one of the easiest ways to earn some extra cash with Opinion Outpost. Each time a friend signs-up using your link, you earn a bonus of $.50 cents (5 points).
While the amount isn’t much, it only takes a quick second to post your referral link to Facebook or Twitter to spread the word. You can earn a maximum referral earning of $5.
If you’d like to support FFL, please use our referral link when signing-up – we’d greatly appreciate it!
Is Opinion Outpost a Scam?
We can definitely conclude that Opinion Outpost is not a scam. Payouts are always made out on time (usually within 72 hours) with the right amount.
If at any time you have a question regarding your points or payout, contact the Opinion Outpost support team. They’re great at responding and will get back to you in about 24 hours.
But Is Opinion Outpost Worth It?
Although Opinion Outpost isn’t a scam, we’ve unfortunately come to the conclusion that Opinion Outpost is worth it only if you need more survey sites to your list. In comparison to other survey sites out there.
The payout averages at around $10 per hour, but this is only if you tend to stick to mid- or high-paying surveys. Otherwise, participating in all surveys will bring you down to about $7 – $8 per hour.
Personally, I also don’t find their surveys to be all that interesting. However, when I find that I’m low on surveys from other rewards sites, I come back to Opinion Outpost as a last resort.

The one thing I can’t complain about is their great support team. I’ve also never had a problem with payout or prizes – I can’t say the same for other sites.
Some Cons of Opinion Outpost
Many people report getting their accounts unexpectedly frozen or suspended for no reason at all. When it comes to account termination, Opinion Outpost can be quite vague to the reasons why.
For this reason, we suggest cashing out as soon as you can just in case your account gets terminated.
What Are Some Other Great Rewards Programs?
Just because you’ve ran out of surveys with Opinion Outpost doesn’t mean you need to give up there. There are plenty of other rewards programs to participate in. Here are 3 of our favorites.
1. Ibotta

- Join Ibotta
If you’re a long-follower of FFL, you should know that we love to promote Ibotta. This is due to their incredibly high sign-up bonus, great payout and ease of use.
Ibotta is a free mobile app that pays you to take pictures of your receipts. Match offers on your receipts with the ones on the apps and earn cash back on your purchases. More than one offer can be claimed per receipt.
For example, let’s say they have an offer of $.50 cents off a gallon of milk and $.25 cents off granola bars at Fred Meyer. Make the purchase, take a picture of your entire receipt, and with 48 – 72 hours you’ll have $.75 cents in your account.
The great thing about Ibotta is that you get a $10 bonus when redeem your first offer.
You need a minimum of $20 to cash out for gift cards or deposits to PayPal or Venmo. For a list of similar apps, check out our receipt scanning apps list.
2. Survey Junkie
- Registration Bonus: None
- Join Survey Junkie
Survey Junkie is another survey site similar to Opinion Outpost. However, the main difference is that they usually have a lot more surveys available.
My first time logging-in I had about 20 surveys available. Not only that, but a lot of these surveys could be repeated throughout the day. The best part? The payout is much better. I can find that I can easily earn up to $15 per hour provided that I stick to higher-paying surveys.
Don’t waste your time with lower-paying surveys. Log-in every so often to check for updates. I usually check once every 5 days and find a few good surveys on there.

What Are Other Great Ways To Earn Money Online?
The best way I can think of to start earning money online is to do what I do: write a blog. The most important thing you can do is write. I was surprised that when I first started writing how much traffic 5 – 10 detailed and well-written articles got me.
Starting a blog may sound difficult, but all it takes is a bit of patience and motivation to write. Find something you’re passionate about and the writing becomes easy. I originally started FFL as a hobby. When I started gaining more traffic, I started monetizing it. Now it’s my full-time job.
To get started with a blog you need a few things:
- Domain name. A domain name is the url of your blog. You can register domains for just $9.99 per year. I personally use Namecheap for all of my domains since I get free WHOIS guard for the first year.
- Hosting. Hosting can be quite expensive, but there are some pretty affordable options out there. Bluehost is currently only $3.95 per month for their shared hosting plan. Not only that, but they give you a free domain name as a new user. This turns out to be just $48 per year for a domain and hosting. You even get a 30-day money back guarantee – you can’t get much better than that.
- WordPress. A content management system makes it easier to organize your articles and to put everything together. I use WordPress and it’s 100% free. There may be a small learning curve at first, but it’s pretty easy once you get used to it.
