2. Swagbucks

Swagbucks Logo

Swagbucks is by far one of my favorite small task apps out there, and it’s probably one of the most well-known. My favorite part is their sign up bonus of $10.

You can earn money playing games, shopping, taking surveys, clipping coupons, referring friends and more.

For any friend that you convince to sign-up using your referral link, you earn 10% of their earnings for life.

In a sense, you’re earning a passive income since all you to do is kick back and watch your screen.

When it comes to taking surveys, I usually find that I can earn a quick $5 within 30 minutes.

What I really love about this app is that in comparison to the rest on this list, it’s actually quite enjoyable.

Quick Summary:
  • Earn money through small tasks
  • $10 registration bonus
  • $5 per 30-minute survey
  • Referral bonus of 10%

Branded Surveys Logo

Branded Surveys is quickly becoming one of the better apps out there due to their high-paying surveys. While not as high as the first two survey apps on this list, you can still earn some good cash.

Each survey pays as much as $2.50 and on average they take about 15 minutes to complete.

And just for signing up as a new user, you get a 100-point bonus. Reach the minimum payout and receive a gift card of your choice.

All gift cards are delivered electronically. This is one of my favorite highest-paying apps.

4. LifePoints

If you’re looking to earn more money for taking surveys, LifePoints is another great app.

Although you’re more likely to earn a higher amount on other surveys on this list, LifePoints can be great for short surveys with high rates.

On average, I can usually earn at a rate of $8 – $10 per hour. Most surveys will take you anywhere between 5 – 20 minutes to complete.

Users even receive a 10-point bonus when they sign up and confirm their email.

The surveys you receive will be decided by your demographics and interests.

My favorite part about LifePoints is that they also occasionally have drawings for cool prizes such as tablets, TVs and other electronics.

Quick Summary:

Fetch Rewards is another receipt scanning app.

This app has been around for a long time and pays you each time you scan a receipt with your smartphone and select the matched items that are on the receipt.

The great thing about Fetch Rewards is that it doesn’t matter where you buy your products. Just make sure they show up on your receipt.

Expect to earn anywhere between $.25 and $2 per offer. Keep in mind you can scan more than one offer per receipt to increase this amount.

Right now you get a $1.50 sign-up bonus when you use the promo code HH3MN and scan your first receipt.

Although the offers are quite limited right now, they are expanding quickly. You only need a minimum of $3 to cash out for a gift card.

7. Rakuten

Rakuten logo

Rakuten is another one of the best online shopping cash back apps that pays you to shop through their online portal. Rakuten give you a free $10 gift card of your choice when you sign-up for a new account.

While Rakuten doesn’t typically have as high of cash back rates as their competitor TopCashback, you’ll still find a few stores that have better offers.

The best cash back rates for this portal is usually found around the holidays.

You’ll usually find that they often promote special deals, such as double cash back, often beating out any of the other shopping portals.

What I personally love about the Rakuten app is their great referral programs. Refer one friend and receive $5.

However, refer 2 friends and get a bonus of $25, and 3 friends for a total bonus of $75.

Quick Summary:
  • Cash back portal for online shopping
  • $10 gift card bonus upon sign up

8. Acorns

The Acorns App is by far one of my favorites when it comes to robo-advisor apps.

This is due to their spare change feature. When you link your credit card to your Acorns account, each time you make a purchase the total is rounded-up to the nearest dollar.

The difference that was rounded-up is automatically invested in your Acorns account. This means you can invest with as little as a few cents at a time.

You get a $5 bonus for registering as a new user.

Acorns advises you based on your risk level, giving you the choice to invest anywhere from a very conservative portfolio to an extremely aggressive portfolio.

Each time you refer a friend you get a bonus of $5 up to a maximum of $100.

When you sign-up with Drop, you’re asked to pick 5 retailers in which you want to earn cash back at. Each time you make a purchase using your linked card you earn points.

10. Pinecone Research

Pinecone Research Logo

Pinecone Research is a survey app that always pays the same amount per survey.

They pay at a flat rate of $3 per survey and typically take anywhere from 10 – 15 minutes to complete.

Most of the surveys cater to your demographics as well as products that you frequently use. As a result, I find the surveys a bit more interesting than with most survey apps.

Unlike all the survey apps on this list, Pinecone Research will notify you once new surveys are available via email.

Cash out once you reach a minimum of $10 for gift cards, physical prizes or direct deposits to your PayPal account.

Quick Summary:
  • Flat $3 per survey
  • Each survey takes 15 minutes on average
  • Minimum $10 to cash out

11. YouGov

YouGov Logo

YouGov is great for those who are interested in politics. Get paid to take surveys and polls regarding current events.

You get a $2 bonus for registering as a new user, and most surveys tend to be short.

YouGov acts more like a community. Once you complete a questionnaire, you instantly know how other people answered the same question.

This gives you further insight as to what the general public thinks when it comes to political issues.

The minimum payment threshold is set at $5, and I can usually reach this amount quite quickly. The $2 welcome bonus definitely helps with this.

The only downside with this money making app is that sometimes it can take weeks before you receive your payments.

YouGov has a great referral program. Each time you refer a friend, you both receive a $2 bonus.

Quick Summary:
  • Surveys on current events
  • Great community
  • Can see answers of other members
  • $2 registration bonus
  • Refer friends for more money

12. PointClub

PointClub Logo

PointClub is one of my favorite survey apps for multiple reasons. To start off, they immediately give you a $5 bonus for signing-up as a new user.

Not only that, but out of all of the money making apps on this list, I find that they tend to have some of the best hourly rates when it comes to taking surveys.

They also have a bonus program. For ever 5 days that you log-in consecutively, you get a 10% bonus of all of your survey earnings. You can keep increasing this amount until you reach a maximum bonus of 100%.

However, if you forget to log-in for one day, your bonus will reset back to zero.

With the bonus applied, I usually earn at a rate of $10 – $15 per hour with the high-paying surveys. The surveys are also very easy to complete, and are typically more enjoyable than other survey apps on this list.

Unfortunately, this one is only available for Android users.

If you still want to give PointClub a try without an Android phone, you can always take surveys using their desktop version.

You need a minimum of $25 in your account to cash out for either gift cards or direct deposits to your PayPal account.

Quick Summary:
  • Fun and quick surveys
  • Tiered points program

Not only that, but you get a $10 bonus for registering as a new user and an additional $10 when you refer a friend.

They also frequently have specials in which they increase their cash back amounts. This often occurs during the holidays or during special occasions.

My favorite part about TopCashBack is that when you choose to redeem for gift cards instead of PayPal you get a 3% bonus added to your total withdrawal amount.

Quick Summary:
  • Frequently has highest cash back rates
  • $10 bonus as a new user
  • Often increase cash back rates during holidays
  • Redeem for PayPal for a 3% bonus
  • Cash Back Portal Reviews

14. MySoapBox

MySoapBox Logo

If you’re looking for a mobile app with high-paying surveys, then you can’t go wrong with MySoapBox. They don’t bother with lower-paying surveys as they know their users won’t be interested in them.

The only downside is that there aren’t many surveys available.

Since they don’t offer that many surveys, I highly suggest signing-up for their email notifications. Your first time cashing out you need a minimum balance of $25.

The $2 sign-up bonus definitely helps in reaching this amount a bit more quickly. After you cash out for the first time, you only need a minimum of $1.

What I’ve noticed is that with MySoapBox the surveys are typically longer due to their high payout rate. While it may seem like a downside, it’s a great way to prevent burnout.

In other words, there’s no need to be constantly searching for new surveys.

Each time you refer a friend using your referral link, you get a $1 bonus and your friend receives $2.

Quick Summary:
  • High-paying surveys
  • Not many surveys available
  • Minimum of $25 to cash out the first time
  • After first time, only $1 to cash out
  • $2 sign-up bonus

15. BeFrugal

BeFrugal Logo

BeFrugal is on par with TopCashback in terms of cash back rates. In fact, if you’re looking for the highest overall return, we recommend going with one of these two.

When you sign-up for BeFrugal, you get a $10 bonus and an additional $15 bonus when you refer a friend.

Like any other portal on this list, you’ll find that the best deals usually occur around the holidays season.

Similar to TopCashback, BeFrugal also gives you a 3% bonus when you choose to redeem for Amazon gift cards instead of PayPal.

What I usually do before making any purchase online is quickly check on Rakuten, TopCashback and BeFrugal in that order. From there, I use the shopping portal that has the highest rate.

I know that I can also rely on these 3 portals since they’ve always paid me the correct amount and on-time.

Quick Summary:
  • Not as high rates as TopCashback
  • Redeem for gift cards or PayPal cash
  • Special deals around the holidays

17. Robinhood

Robinhood Logo

Robinhood is one of the most popular investment apps on the market. It’s great for those who are beginner investors and looking to make money on the stock market.

Its great easy-to-use interface makes it quite addictive. For this matter, be careful as you may end up day trading without you realizing it.

For me personally, I focus all of my attention on low-cost ETFs. These are highly diversified and give me a great balance and covers most of the entire stock market without risking volatility.

The best part about Robinhood is their commission structure. You get unlimited free trades on everything. That includes options, ETFs, stocks and mutual funds.

Sign up as a new user and earn a fractional share of a free stock as a bonus.

Quick Summary:
  • Commission-free investment app
  • Fractional share as a registration bonus
  • Easy-to-use interface
  • Excellent for beginning investors
  • Can be quite addictive due to interface

Toluna Opinions is great for those who want cash fast.

All payouts are made immediately after you request them. You need a minimum of $20 in your account to cash out for either direct deposits to PayPal or for gift cards.

19. GigWalk

gigwalk logo

GigWalk pays you to complete local tasks in your area.

The tasks you complete usually include taking surveys, taking a photo, checking prices or some other sort of mystery shopping tasks.

The earnings potential for GigWalk is quite high in which you can get paid up to $20 per task. However, in exchange most tasks tend to take a bit longer.

I personally prefer this since I can focus on one task at a time.

There’s no registration bonus with this money making app, but it’s definitely worth it. It gets you out of the house and it tends to pay quite well.

For those living in smaller cities, it’s going to be a bit difficult to find many gigs, but I suggest at least trying.

20. Uber

With the Uber app, you can earn cash by picking up people and delivering to their destination – just like a taxi would.

The majority of Uber app drivers use this platform as a side hustle to earn some extra cash on their own schedule. Some make it their full-time job.

The amount you earn depends on the location. For example, if you’re in a small city, it won’t be as profitable as in larger cities such as New York.

This is one of the best money making apps for full-time work or to work on your own hours. Some Uber drivers report as making up to $6,000 per month after tips and fees.

However, keep in mind that they’re usually working long hours to earn this amount. Drivers that work during peak hours tend to make more money.

If you’re looking to earn even more time, you can also sign up for Uber Eats and deliver food to homes for instant paymentsand work on your own schedule.

21. Nielsen Consumer & Mobile Panel

Nielsen Computer & Mobile Panel comes at a close third on our passive income apps list. Although the payout isn’t as high, you can install the app on multiple devices; doubling, tripling or even quadrupling your income.

The amount of devices you can install the app on depends on your location. They accept a specific number of devices from any given area.

For every device you have, expect to earn up to $50/year in passive income. You can also install the app on desktop devices, but keep in mind that you won’t earn money this way.

If you decide to go the desktop route, you’ll be entered in monthly drawings to earn up to $1,000 at a time.

It’s difficult to determine exactly when you’ll be able to cash out.. From my personal experience they pay about once or twice a month.

Earn points that can be exchanged for both cash rewards and gift cards. Be sure to check out our full review.

22. MobileXpression

Apps like MobileXpression gives you a $5 Amazon gift card within your first few weeks of signing-up as a new member. In total, expect to only earn around $20 per year with this free app.

While it’s not much, you literally don’t have to do anything except leave it running in the background on your phone.

I haven’t noticed any slowdown on my phone on this app. Aside from earning cash rewards, you’ll also be awarded tokens that can be used to enter cash drawings.

The one downside about MobileXpression is that they require you to install a VPN to your phone.

Keep in mind that certain cash rewards apps may suspend you if they find out if you’re using a VPN.

23. EarnHoney

When it comes to video watching apps, EarnHoney reigns at the top of the list.

They’ve continuously increased in popularity due to the fact that you can make $90/month or more.

The best part? It’s completely passive, meaning you can just let the phone run and let videos play endlessly.

Even though this is the case, I suggest checking-up on the app once in a while to make sure it hasn’t frozen. This will happen if you leave the app running for days at a time.

EarnHoney gets even better. When you refer a friend, you get 10% of all of their earnings. This is a great way for you and your friends to earn some extra cash.

24. TaskRabbit

TaskRabbit merely serves as a tool to help you find work in your area. Help others complete tasks such as delivering groceries, building furniture from IKEA, waiting in line and more.

Keep in mind that all those who wish to work as task workers must complete a background check.

The amount you earn per task depends on how much the person who’s looking for help is willing to pay. TaskRabbit is available in 19 major cities across the US.

In order to start really making money on TaskRabbit, it’s important to get positive reviews. This way you can turn it into a lucrative side hustle with some earning up to thousands per month.

Keep in mind that payments aren’t issued through the app until tasks are 100% completed as agreed upon by both the client and worker.

In fact, I’ve been able to save an average of 3 – 5% on all of my purchases thanks to Honey and the coupon codes they provide.

27. Ipsos i-Say

What I love about Ipsos is that they always tell you how long surveys are going to take. Furthermore, most of their surveys are actually much shorter than they say.

I can make roughly $8 – $10 per hour with Ipsos as long as I stick to higher-paying surveys.

Each time you take a survey you’re also automatically entered in a prize drawing. Win cool prizes such as an MP3 player, gift cards and more.

Ipsos also rewards you for taking a lot of surveys. For example, when you take your first 5 surveys you’re automatically given 5 points.

29. Fiverr

Unlike most of the other best money making apps on this list, Fiverr is a marketplace that allows you to promote your skills as services and receive money in return from clients.

The reason they call it Fiverr is because you earn a minimum of $5 per gig (or skill) that you promote. You can set up gigs in writing, SEO, graphic design, copywriting and much more.

When you create an account, just make sure to fill out your profile in detail. This should outline your expertise, any certifications and why you are qualified.

After your profile is complete, create gigs that buyers can search for. You can set up as many gigs as you want. Keep in mind that you won’t be paid until after you complete the task that you give to your client.

Make sure to provide an excellent service so that clients leave you 5-star reviews. If you become a top-rated seller, you appear higher in search results for certain gigs and will thus generate more sales and money.

30. Google Opinion Rewards

The Google Opinion Rewards app pays you to complete surveys in exchange for rewards or payments to PayPal.

Most of the surveys that you complete include polls, reviews for hotels and surveys on product satisfaction.

Keep in mind that in order for Opinion Rewards to work, it must be able to access your location. This is due to the fact that some of the surveys are based on a local area that you may have visited.

In short, the Google app has very quick surveys, but very limited earnings potential. That’s why we put them last on our list of best money making apps.

Rewards are typically given in the form of credit in the Google Play Store.

Once the app detects a price adjustment, refunds are typically processed in around 3-7 business days. You’ll always be refunded to your original payment method.

For example, if you paid with a debit card, Capital One Shopping will give you a refund on your debit card.

What Should I Look For In The Best Money Making Apps?

Here’s a short list of things I always look for before signing up for any sort of money making app:

  • How do they pay? Most money making apps have a wide variety of payment methods. However, I’ve run into a few that only have one form of payment. For example, some apps only pay in physical products and don’t give out any sort of cash awards. If they give away rewards that you’re never going to use, you should probably turn away and look for an app that’s more worth your time.
  • When do they pay? Most apps typically pay within a couple of weeks or less. However, there are some that only pay once a month. Depending on how patient you are, this might or might not be an issue.
  • How much do they pay? How much you can potentially earn is probably the most important single factor when looking at the best money making apps. Keep in mind that you may need to try an app for a while before you can calculate any sort of hourly rate.
  • Free registration? In most cases, you should never have to pay to use a money app. If at any time you run across an app that asks for your payment information, it’s most likely a scam. All of the apps on this list are 100 percent free.
  • Can you refer friends? Some of the easiest ways to earn extra cash with apps is by making a quick post to Facebook or Twitter with your referral link

Are These Apps Legit?

All of the money making apps listed here are 100% legit and completely free to use.

In fact, if you ever come across a money making app that asks for your credit card information without good reason and reviews, they are most likely a scam.

After hours of personal testing, we can confirm that all of the apps on this list have paid out the correct amount and on-time. If at any time you don’t receive your payment, contact the customer support team.

All of the apps on this list have excellent support and should be able to help you with your needs.

The reason we didn’t include more money making apps on this list is because they failed to meet the requirements mentioned in the above sentences.

Apps That Aren’t Worth Your Time

These apps pay so little that they aren’t worth your time.

  • ReceiptPal – Another receipt scanning app. The payouts are so low that you typically only earn cents for every receipt you scan.
  • QuickThoughts – Survey app that’s completely legit. However, the payouts are extremely low and there typically aren’t many surveys available.
  • Seashells – Cash back app that no longer exists.
  • Perk TV – Small task app that no longer exists.
  • AppManGet paid to download apps. The problem with these type of apps is that they typically have only a limited amount of apps you can download. If you’re lucky, you can cash out one time.
  • WowApp – Earn rewards for messaging others through this app. The payouts are extremely low and everyone is using other apps for messaging.
  • Vindale Research – Survey app that’s been shut down.
  • CashCrate – Small task site that’s been shut down.

How Are These Apps Able to Pay You?

The reason the money making apps on this list are able to pay you is because they receive a payment in exchange for the service that you provide.

Think of them as a middleman. Instead of you working directly with the company that’s seeking some sort of information on a product or service, these apps receive a commission for bringing the challenges directly to you.

For example, let’s take a look at survey apps.

Companies want to receive honest feedback about their products and services from consumers. However, it would be extremely costly and difficult for them to reach out to a large amount of people.

Therefore, they rely on the apps to conduct market research for them.

What Are The Ways to Earn Money On These Apps?

Here’s a quick list of ways we’ve mentioned that you can earn some extra cash by using these apps.

  1. Play games – You usually won’t earn a high amount to play games, but it’s one of the best ways to pass time while making money.
  2. Watch videos – Sometimes this can be considered “passive” income since you aren’t doing anything except sitting there watching TV.
  3. Driving – For those who are looking for a serious way to earn money, apps such as Uber can be a great side hustle and also a full-time living.
  4. Cash back – These apps pay you a percentage back on your purchase price or offer you a refund such as Capital One Shopping.
  5. Surveys – Receive money through taking surveys and sharing your opinion.
  6. Exercise – Money making apps like Sweatcoin pay you to excercise. There aren’t many other fitness apps like this one.

What Are the Best Apps For The Most Money?

The #1 ranking factor for the best money making apps listed above is their payout rate. However, other ranking factors may come into play such as registration bonus, payment methods and ease-of-use.

If you’re looking specifically for the highest-paying apps, we recommend Swagbucks or Survey Junkie specifically.

If you try out an app and you’re making under $5 per hour, we suggest ditching it and moving on to another one on this list. Otherwise, it’s not going to be worth your time.

Most of the apps here are available in both the Google Play Store and the iOS App Store.
