1. Get A Cash Back Credit Card
Here we’re going to want a cash back credit card that gives us cash back on all purchases. Yes, there are certain cards that give you higher amounts of cash back at hardware stores, but they aren’t going to be of any use to us in this case.
The card that’s going to work best for us in this card is the Citi Double Cash Card. It gives you 2% cash back on all purchases, 1% when you make the purchase and 1% when you pay your bill. There’s no annual fee nor is there a cap on the amount of cash back that can be earned. Let’s take a quick look at the card:
- No Cap On Cash Back Earned
- 1% Cash Back When You Make Your Purchase
- 1% Cash Back When You Pay Your Bill
- Free Concierge Service
- Incredible Citi Benefits
- No Annual Fee
- Chip Technology For Security
Another option is also the Discover It Card which is currently holding a Double Cash Back Promotion, essentially giving you 2% cash back on all purchases. However, this promotion only lasts until the end of the year and only applied to your first year’s purchases. For long term, the Citi Card is definitely going to be the way to go.
2. Sign-Up For TopCashBack
TopCashBack is an online shopping portal that partners with thousands of online retailers. Every time you use one of their affiliate links to make a purchase, they earn a commission and give the majority (if not all) of that cash to the buyers, or in this case, you.
It’s 100% free and the only requirements to signing-up are your name and email. You can sign-up by clicking this link here. Once you reach a minimum of $20 in your account you can withdraw it to your PayPal or receive a 2.5% bonus if you agree to transfer it into Amazon Gift Cards.
However, we’re not going to be searching for Home Depot in the search bar. Go to the next step. You can view the Top 10 Shopping Portals Here, but in this case TopCashBack is going to be our highest for what we’re going to do next.
3. Sign-Up For Raise
Raise is a online gift card reseller that sells gift cards at a discount. You’ve probably figured out that we’re going to be buying Home Depot cards on here, but not just yet. In order to maximize our cash back, what we’re going to want to do first is simply sign-up for it.
You can sign-up for an account for free by clicking this link here. You’ll only need to enter in your name and email and then verify it. Now let’s move on to the next step.
4. Go To Raise Through Cash Back
Go back to TopCashBack and type in Raise in the search bar. You should notice that you’ll be getting 2% cash back for every gift card that you buy on raise. Click on the link to be directly redirected to the raise site. From here, any purchase you make will award you cash back to your TopCashBack account.
While it does take a $20 minimum to withdraw from your TopCashBack account for the first time, you can use this portal for all online retailers, not just Raise. That way you can get your money a lot quicker and save a ton on all purchases.
5. Purchase A Home Depot Gift Card
Now that you’re on the Raise website, we can finally make our purchase. Type in “Home Depot” in their search bar and there should be gift cards for around 5% – 6% off.
Click on the amount that you want to buy. For our purposes in calculating the total amount of cash back, we’re going to round up to 6%. Keep in mind that these amounts change often, sometimes going lower and sometimes going higher.
When you’re on the checkout page, just be sure to use your Citi Double Cash Card so that you can get an additional 2% back on your gift card purchase. It can take up to 24 hours for an electronic gift card to be delivered to your inbox, but usually you’ll have it within an hour or two.
6. Use A Portal Again
Now that we have our gift card, we need to make our final Home Depot purchase, and we’re going to be using the TopCashBack portal once again. Go back to their page and this time type in “Home Depot” in the search bar. You’ll be able to get 5.1% cash back on all purchases that you make using their link.
Again, this number can fluctuate from time-to-time, but it normally stays at around the 5% mark. Click on their link, get redirected to the Home Depot page, and make a purchase using the Home Depot gift card that you just got.
Extra Tip: Sign-Up For The Pro Xtra Loyalty Program
If you’re a contractor or business professional at Home Depot, you can sign-up for their Pro Xtra Loyalty Program. After you spend a certain amount of money at their store, you can earn cash back. The more you spend, the more you get back, but there are specific tiers that you have to reach.
This means if you spend $7,500 or more, you can get an additional 20% cash back, meaning you’d get a total of 35% cash back.
Let’s Recap
Let’s calculate the total amount of cash of cash back that we’ve earned thus far.
- Citi Double Cash Credit Card – 2%
- TopCashBack Portal To Raise- 2%
- Raise Gift Card – 5.5%
- TopCash Back Portal To Home Depot Page – 5.1%
We’ve just saved a total of roughly 15% on any Home Depot purchase.
