24 Online Weekend Jobs For Extra Money

Here is the list of weekend jobs that pay by working entirely from the computer.

Enjoy!

1. Give Your Opinion

Earn extra cash sharing your opinion with paid surveys.

If you are looking for a side hustle that’s flexible and gives you the opportunity to make money every time you login, then survey-taking is for you.

No skills required.

You don’t need a specialized background or expertise in any field.

You just need internet access to a device (like a computer, smartphone, or tablet).

Here’s what you need to know:

  • Surveys are low-paying
  • Panels are a higher paying opportunity
  • You can make more money by joining many survey companies
  • They can be tiring
  • You won’t be able to make a full-time income
  • They are super flexible and work around your schedule

Want to get started? Here are some of our favorites best paid survey sites:

6 Facts About Survey Taking

From a real survey taker (me) experienced with taking many surveys over the years, here is a breakdown on 6 facts about survey taking.

1. Surveys Are Lower Paying

First, surveys are low paying.

You can spend 20 minutes of your time answering questions and only make $2.

Some opportunities are higher paying that others and it does all add up.

Consider you spend 4 hours Friday-Sunday taking surveys at around $5/hour.

You’ll make $60/weekend or $240 in a month.

There’s potential to make much more though.

2. Working in Panels

There are studies and panels which can fetch you $40 to $400 each.

You can mix those in with lower paying surveys to instantly lift your income.

Examples of panel companies:

So, panels and studies are a more time-intensive type of survey.

They usually take an hour or longer, sometimes spanning several days (like an hour a day for 3 days in a row).

They may also require more feedback and participation in a group setting, one-on-one interview or live web interview.

I have taken several of these and they are a piece of cake.

The first panel I participated in took several hours (not longer than 3 hours) and earned me $400.

The next two panels took under an hour each and paid $100-$125 each.

3. Join Multiple Survey Companies to Make More Money

If you want to up your income, try applying to multiple survey companies.

You do this registering for multiple sites.

Try getting a separate free email address (like Gmail) just for surveys.

This will help keep you organized and you can check that email account for new survey offers and emails on upcoming opportunities.

4. Survey Taking Can Be Tiring

Survey taking can be tiring.

Although you are just sharing your honest opinion, brain work tires you out so you might get  more fatigued than you might think.

Usually not more so than your primary job, but something to be aware of if you think it’s work that does not require your thinking, because that’s totally wrong.

5. Survey Taking Is Not Possible for Full-Time

However many survey companies you join and how high a rate you can get, you simply will not be able to make a full-time income.

6. Survey Taking is Very Flexible

Aside from that, survey taking is probably one of the most flexible side hustles you will come across.

You work when you want to for as long as you want to.

You’ll really love that.

Pay rate:

You can earn a few hundred dollars per month taking paid surveys.

Survey companies pay you in a few different ways:

  • Direct deposit
  • PayPal
  • Gift cards
  • Rewards

Getting Paid by Direct Deposit

Direct deposit means they will deposit money into you bank account once you reach their minimum threshold.

For example, a survey company may have a minimum threshold of $50 so your balance will continue growing and once it reaches $50, you get a deposit into your bank.

Getting Paid via PayPal

Next, there’s PayPal, which is pretty easy.

You get a deposit to your PayPal account, when your balance meets the threshold.

Getting Paid with Gift Cards

With gift cards, you will get awarded a gift card of your choosing (most likely) which you can use at that retailer or participating retailers.

This can include major retailers like Amazon, Walmart, Target, Best Buy, or a Visa gift card.

Getting Paid with Rewards

Then, there are rewards where you get paid in cool stuff, which can include gift cards, as well as other gifts like consumer electronics, apparel, jewelry, and more.

So those are the most common ways to earn extra money from home with survey companies and if you’re ready to kick things off, here are 50+ of the best survey sites to get you started.

2. Virtual Assistant

A virtual assistant (VA) is a personal assistant that specializes in simple and random tasks.

This professional is hired to help consumers and businesses make their life easier.

They can help get their clients better organized, get them on task to complete projects, assist with administrative-related tasks, and much more.

VA’s for Consumers Versus for Businesses

Virtual assistants are super valuable at helping out overwhelmed, busy people, from individuals managing a full household to small businesses looking for a way to be better organized and get more work done.

Imagine if you had a personal assistant that helped out virtually.

How much easier would life be?

For consumers, a virtual assistant is super helpful for busy families and individuals, doing things like:

  • Planning birthday parties and other events
  • Scheduling appointments
  • Overseeing (digitally) house staff like housekeepers, pool cleaners, lawn care staff, etc. with scheduling and related virtual activities
  • Answering emails

For professionals and businesses, a virtual assistant can help with:

  • Taking notes during meetings
  • Email and phone call answering
  • Social media management
  • Calendar management
  • Admin-related tasks

A virtual assistant can be invaluable.

This is a growing field with the virtual assistant market expected to be valued at over $6 billion in 2023.

Pay Rate:

A virtual assistant can be expected to make $10 to $100/hour.

The range is wide as you can see, in part because of the skill set required for the specific job, based on the client.

A general VA might be earning on the lower end of the scale, around $10 to $20/hour, while a specialized VA assisting a technician like a web developer, might make $50 to $100 per hour.

3. Social Media Manager

A social media manager (SMM) is a professional that gets paid to manage social media for others.

SMM’s typically work with companies, as individuals usually don’t have a need to pay an expert to post on social media for them.

Tasks include:

  • Creating a social media posting schedule
  • Sourcing and curating content to post on social media
  • Engaging with fans
  • Growing the fan base
  • Monitoring the results and reviewing the data with clientele
  • Managing an ad campaign
  • And, other tasks!

Social media is here to stay and it makes a big impact on consumers, which is why companies won’t hesitate to bring on board an SMM to help them manage this part of their enterprise.

Pay Rate:

SMM’s can be paid hourly or by the project.

An hourly rate can start at $15/hour and go up from there based on experience, skill set, background, and other factors.

By the project, depending on the length of the project, specific requirements and other details, a project rate can start at $1,000 (more or less) and reach five to six figures.

SMM’s that work for clients on a recurring basis often charge retainer fees as well, like $500/month or $350/month for a 6-month period paid up front.

The pay structure varies and will be determined by the SMM (you) and the client.

What’s Required to Become an SMM?

You don’t need a specialized skill set, degree or background to manage social media for others, however you should be familiar with social networks.

If you are comfortable with social media and you are a fast learner, you can teach yourself how to use the latest software to manage social networks, though you can manage on your own manually, as well.

And, you usually only need a client’s login and password to get started.

This is an excellent choice because with all the automation tools and resources available, you can do an entire week’s work in a weekend!

This is also the perfect kind of job to scale, taking on dozens of clients or more and building a team so you can make a lot of money every month semi-passively.

4. Freelance Writing

A freelance writer is a writer that works as an independent contractor for a client (business or professional).

Writers create all kinds of content, from:

  • Novels
  • Blog posts
  • Magazine articles
  • Email newsletters
  • Product descriptions
  • Ebooks
  • White papers
  • And, more!

If you love writing, this gig might be the perfect fit for you.

I started my foray into writing just after graduating from college.

I landed a job in my town and I was making the most I had ever made but I wanted more.

My goal was to grow my savings as quickly as possible to build up my nest egg.

So, I started freelance writing for a handful of small publications making $25 here and there.

That really fueled my love of writing and today, almost 10 years later I’m still writing!

Pay rate:

Writers can be paid:

  • Hourly
  • By project
  • By the word

An hourly rate is probably the least desirable.

If you’re a fast writer, that will instantly drop your rate.

And it promotes slow productivity, just to make a higher hourly rate.

Project-based fees are standard for long-term jobs like writing a book.

And the most common way of earning as a writer is by the word.

Magazine writers can charge $1 per word while white paper writing and blog post writing, among other kinds of writing can go for as low as $0.02 to $.10 per word.

Still, earning $.10/word for a 3,000-word paper can earn you $300!

There’s a lot of different kinds of writing and writing projects so you’ll never get bored doing this.

5. Graphic Designer

Graphic designers help bring visions to life through graphics.

They can help develop gorgeous brochures, illustrations for books, graphics for social media and more.

Are you creative?

Do you know how to use graphics software like Adobe Photoshop?

If so, you could be a graphic designer.

Pay rate:

According to Payscale, graphic designers can earn a salary starting at $42,000 full-time.

That means part-time, working on the weekends only, you might be looking at around half that amount, give or take.

Creative work is so fulfilling and many times it doesn’t even feel like work.

If you’re a creative and would like to give this a try, go for it!

Freelance graphic designers are known to make $50 or more/hour.

6. Voiceover Services

How would you like to earn free money just by reading?

Voiceover actors are in demand and are needed for films, audiobooks, transcription and more.

Pay rate:

The industry average is around $200 per finished audio hour.

While $200/hour sounds great, you have to consider, it can take up to 5 hours or longer to record a finished audio hour, which breaks down your base hourly rate (based on the time you worked) to $40/hour for 5 hours of work.

Still not bad, if you ask me.

There aren’t many part-time jobs that pay $40 per hour.

You can find voiceover jobs at places like ACX and Voices.

7. Researcher

A researcher gets paid to do research on interesting topics.

You’ll park yourself in front of a computer and research whatever your client needs, from fact checking a topic, finding locations for a project or other needs your client might have.

You should be focused, diligent, hard-working and good at finding things on the internet, to succeed in this kind of job.

If you like drilling down and finding the specific answer to a question on the internet, this gig might be an excellent fit for you.

Pay rate:

Research associates can start at $48,000/year full-time with research scientists and analysts earning more.

Part-time, this could mean you make around $12/hour or so.

This is an interesting choice to get your brain going, pass the time by fast and keep you interested.

8. Customer Service Agents

As a customer service agent, you will be helping customers with general questions and inquiries, most likely.

An Amazon customer service agent, for example, might do things like track orders for customers, answer general questions, help with returns/exchanges, etc.

If you’re friendly and enjoy helping others, you might like this job.

The best part? A lot of these positions don’t require any previous customer service skills.

Pay rate:

Customer service agents can start at $10/hour or more, depending on the job.

These jobs can be schedule-flexible which means working on the weekends only, is definitely within reach.

8. Tutoring

Help students by tutoring them and getting paid for it!

You can work as a tutor privately or work for a tutoring company.

There are even online tutoring companies like TutorMe or Skooli. There are also now a lot of companies that pay you to teach English.

Pay rate:

Tutors can make around $20,000/year according to this source, with an average hourly rate of $19.65.

Even though this job can be done both online and offline, we recommend taking a position in which you can work from home on your computer.

9. Rent Your House

Renting your house for extra money is an amazing way to make money online.

Many times you don’t even have to leave your home while renting it!

Here are some websites in which you can rent your house:

How it works?

After you sign up to the short-term home rental site, you can start taking guests right away.

I’ve read stories where new hosts started getting reservations almost immediately following going live on AirBNB and other sites.

You’ll choose your daily rate, establish rules, and then get your home prepared.

Think about things like:

  • If you will rent your entire house or a room
  • How often you’d like to rent your place
  • The expense of getting your home ready
  • Implications for homeowners insurance

Rent Your Entire Place Versus Renting a Room

How do you make this decision?

It’s easier than you might think.

Ask Yourself These Questions…

Do you want to give strangers full reign of your property or just limit it to renting a room?

Are you still living in the property?

Do you have the budget to continuously clean and repair your entire home?

Do you want to make more or less money with your short-term rental?

Here’s What to Think About…

First, know that your listing will be more desirable if your entire place is able to be rented out, versus just a room.

That’s because a lot of people travel with groups, with family members or spouses and pets, etc.

More space is just better and a preference for many people.

So, limiting renting to just a room in your house could mean less money for you.

Also think about strangers circulating throughout your home over a long period of time.

There’s a lot of cleaning and maintenance required for short-term rental properties.

You don’t have to do this cleaning and maintenance yourself of course, as most hosts usually hire an affordable cleaning company but consider the cost of this service.

This and other considerations should be reviewed thoroughly before you make the decision to rent out your entire space or just a room.

How Often to Rent Out Your Space

Next, consider how often you want to rent out your space.

You can make a healthy side income just renting out your space on the weekend.

Weekends are also a busy time for rentals, as people are traveling a lot on weekends.

You can also double or triple your income if you allow weekday rentals.

Think about all this and make your decision before you finalize your listing.

Expenses for Transitioning Your Space to Short-Term Rental

Then, there’s the expense of transitioning your space to a short-term rental unit and costs like:

  • Furnishings
  • Linens
  • Cleaning and maintenance
  • Small repairs, if applicable
  • And, other costs

Consider your personal experience when you visit a hotel and try to recreate that same feeling for your guests.

Homeowners Insurance and other Implications

Lastly and most importantly, check with your homeowners insurance and homeowners association where you live, to make sure you are allowed to list your home as a short-term rental.

Some home insurance companies don’t allow it.

And, it can be frowned upon by HOA’s too.

Pay rate:

You can rent a room for $50/night and rent an entire home for $350/night (these are just examples).

This is dependent on many things like the size of the space, area, and other factors.

How much you can make total is also dependent on how often you rent out your space and if you’ll rent the entire home or a single room.

For example, weekend rentals at the $50/night for renting a room, could mean an extra $150/week if you rented Friday-Sunday.

That’s about $600/month in extra income, passively!

If you rented out your entire space for $350/night for weekends, that would equal out to $1,050 per weekend or $4,200 per month!

And, if you aren’t a homeowner, you can still do this and companies like AirBNB support it!

The process is almost the same as if you owned the home and it’s called AirBNB rental arbitrage.
You just want to make sure your landlord approves and you’re good to go!

10. Rent Your RV

Renting out your RV, like your travel trailer or Class A motorhome can make you money, rather than just sitting your RV in your driveway for most of the year.

You can go through a company called RVShare to make money passively renting out your RV.

Pay rate:

You can make an extra up to $22,000/year or more renting out your RV.

11. Rent Your Car

Partner with the company Turo to earn an extra income renting out your car.

This is perfect if you’re a homebody like me and stay in mostly, on the weekends.

Instead of your car sitting in your driveway unused, get paid by guests to rent it out!

Pay rate:

According to Turo, the average rate is around $706/month renting out your car.

That’s enough to pay your car note and then some!

12. Sell on Ebay

Ebay is an online marketplace where you can sell just about anything.

I use Ebay to sell odds and ends around the house around the holidays for an extra $300 to $500 and then I use that money to buy holiday gifts.

I recently started using Ebay again and after finding a hot product, made around $7,500 in the first week!

You get exposed to Ebay’s huge audience and it’s perfect for retail arbitrage, online arbitrage, or selling things around your house.

Pay rate:

There are part-time and full-time sellers on Ebay.

It’s not unusual to make $1,000 per month part-time working weekends only.

Best practices for Ebay:

  • Find competitors doing very well and emulate their success
  • Don’t be afraid to try the promoted listings
  • Use FinalFeeCalc to check your profit margin before listing
  • Take advantage of listing promotions

13. Sell on Amazon

Selling on Amazon is almost like selling on Ebay.

Amazon is much smaller than Ebay but outperforming them, as one of the largest marketplace leaders in the world.

That means if you sell on Amazon you will have a lot less competition.

Sell stuff around the house or try your hand at arbitrage to earn a weekend side hustle.

Pay rate:

Weekend sellers can expect to make up to $1,000/month or more.

When I tried Amazon selling many years ago, I started making $3,000/month almost instantly.

It’s not that difficult to sell on the platform and with the dozens of free and paid tools that exist today, to help with sourcing products, competition and more, you can possibly see the same success or even better!

14. Arbitrage

Arbitrage is taking advantage of price differences in the market to make a profit.

When you do this online, it means you are sourcing products and then reselling them.

For example, you could source a desk for $40 at Walmart.com and resell on Ebay for $100, making a $60 profit.

Now, to put some further background to the example…

The desk you sell from Walmart.com is on sale at Walmart.

And, it’s selling on Ebay (the same price) with evidence of past sales (looking at Sold listings) in the $100-range.

This is what’s going on behind the scenes.

At any point in time you can find the same product in two different places at two different prices.

If the margin is large enough, buy from one place and sell on another, just like the Walmart/Ebay example.

Pay rate:

This depends on many things like the number of products you sell, the competitiveness of the product and other determining factors.

However, earning up to $1,200/month is definitely within reach.

Some new sellers can even go way beyond this.

Your success is going to be based on most notably, your competition.

More and more people are becoming players in the arbitrage game which can impede your success and income so be aware of this.

Still, it can be a fun (and lucrative) side hustle to do on the weekend.

15. Sell on Shopify

Selling on Shopify means you will have your own e-commerce store, selling to the general public.

You can sell products and/or services.

Shopify has all the tools you need to run a successful store.

When I was working in e-commerce I used Shopify to make $30,000+ per month in sales with virtually no paid ads at all.

Shopify gives you access to experts and tools to help you with it all: customer service, sourcing, fulfillment, marketing and more.

Pay rate:

This is based on so many things.

Aim for a revenue goal and plot your objectives in a business plan, then track your progress often.

I have taken new stores to $1,000 in the first 10 days and I’ve seen sellers do five figures in their first month.

There is a ton of income potential with this one.

17. Watch Videos

You can make money watching videos with companies like Swagbucks.

Swagbucks also pays you to share your opinion, play games, research random topics, try products for free and more.

How cool would it be to earn money watching videos?

Pay rate:

You can make up to $500/month or more getting paid to watch videos.

Read our full Swagbucks review to learn more.

18. Play Games

Another cool way to earn money on the weekend on the Internet is to earn free money by playing games.

You will be testing video games and mobile games for companies, providing your feedback, which is super valuable to companies seeking the opinion of users.

Here are some of our favorite sites in which you can earn playing games:

Pay rate:

Your pay potential is going to be similar to that of survey taking so, around a few hundred dollars per month testing video games.

Get started with these 11+ sites and apps that pay you to play games.

19. User Tester

Being a user tester means you will be paid to share your opinion on a website, on things like:

  • Navigation
  • User-friendliness
  • Purpose or intent of the site
  • And other things

You visit a web url and talk aloud while you answer questions and perform simple tasks, like finding the About Us page, for example.

The user test is recorded.

Companies offering user testing gigs include User Testing and Userlytics.

Pay rate:

You can earn up to $60 per test with User Testing.

20. Transcription

Transcriptionists earn money from typing what they hear from audio files.

You’ll be sitting at your desk connected to your computer with headphones, listening to a conversation and typing the audio that you hear.

Your client will likely give you a style guide to follow which tells you how to write your transcription, when to ignore fumbled words, etc.

Pay rate:

Transcriptionists can make up to or over $25/hour working for places like Rev, other transcription companies and private clients.

21. Proofreading

This is just what it sounds like.

You will be paid to proofread documents to make sure they are free of grammar and spelling errors.

Proofreaders can work for proofreading companies like Scribe Media and others, or private clients.

Pay rate:

You can earn an hourly rate starting at $10/hour or higher depending on the job and your experience.

You can also earn a flat rate, based on the project, like $3,000.

22. Translation

If you’re bilingual or know many languages, consider translation services.

You will be translating a language into a new language, like translating Spanish into English.

Translation jobs can pay very well, considering a lot of people don’t know multiple languages.

Pay rate:

The average translator salary is around $20/hour.

23. Web Design

This is a technical job that requires a great eye for design and the ability to code.

Clients include professionals and businesses that are looking for web design, like e-commerce stores, attorneys, teachers, bloggers, podcasters, etc.

Pay rate:

Web designers typically earn by the hour or by the project.

The first custom site I paid for cost me around $2,500.

I’ve seen projects as high as $10,000 and some higher than that.

On an hourly basis, $50 to $100/hour or higher is not unusual.

If you’re not sure on how to get started on enhancing your web development skills, Udemy has a ton of free and paid online courses to help you out.

24. Blogging

Bloggers are creatives that get paid to create content.

How do bloggers make money?

Bloggers make money in various ways:

  • Ads
  • Sponsorships
  • Products
  • Services
  • Affiliate marketing

Getting Paid Through Ads

Advertisers can places ads on blogs and pay bloggers according to the number of clicks ads receive.

So, if a blogger receives 500,000 monthly page views every month, they could potentially earn $8,000/month from ads alone, which is a result of the clicks that result from that traffic.

To earn money from from ads, bloggers should join ad networks like Google Adsense or Mediavine, to name a few.

Getting Paid From Sponsors

Sponsorships are arrangements where an advertiser pays a blogger a lump sum to advertise on their site, through a blog post, social media, email newsletter, etc.

A blogger receiving 400,000 monthly page views per month could fetch $5,000 per sponsorship.

For example, a travel blogger could partner with a VPN company that allows them to access the internet around the world.

The VPN company would pay the travel blogger to mention them on their blog, social media, etc.

That’s how sponsorships work.

Getting Paid From Your Own Products and Services

Then there are products and services that bloggers sell.

For example, a food blogger could offer a recipe ebook product or an accounting blogger could offer a tax audit/review service.

Bloggers create products and services themselves, then sell them to their readers.

This can be quite lucrative and product income makes up the bulk of income for many bloggers.

Getting Paid to Blog With Affiliate Marketing

Lastly, there’s affiliate marketing, where bloggers refer products to their audience and get paid a commission if a sale results.

Like if a fashion blogger refers her readers a handbag and her referral results in 10 sales.

She/he will earn 10 commissions (1 commission per sale) from affiliate marketing.

Pay rate:

Bloggers can make a lot or a little.

Income is based a lot on traffic, which can be driven by the age of the blog (older more seasoned blogs tend to have more traffic).

Not always though.

I have seen new bloggers start earning $4,000/month in the first six months.

A new blogger can expect to make up to $1,000/month within the first year.

Income starts at zero and gradually increases from there, depending on the frequency of publishing, promotion, how the blog is monetized and other factors.

Aged blogs 5 years and old can make up to $10,000 per month or more, again, based on so many factors.

But, keep in mind that having a blog for several years does not automatically warrant higher income.

It takes years of hard work, consistently publishing content, promotion, and more.

This is a fun job that’s very rewarding but if you are looking for income right away, this would not be a great fit for that as blogging income grows slowly over time, in most cases.
