I recently celebrated my birthday by treating myself to a few things. Some of the birthday freebies I snagged include Clinique Mascara, a makeup set from Sephora, a necklace from Forever 21, ice cream from Baskin-Robbins, a Starbucks drink, and more. I paid a grand total of $0.00 for all of these items and treats.
Birthday freebies and discounts are an easy way to get dozens of small gifts from retailers. From dine-in restaurants to clothing stores, there are tons of options to choose from. You just have to know how to snag these freebies and discounts. This post highlights 32 birthday deals and tells you exactly how to get them.

1. Steak n’ Shake
The Freebie: A free Double Steakburger with Cheese and a side of fries. You’ll receive a coupon for this via e-mail sometime during your birthday month.
How To Get It: Sign up for the Steak n’ Shake eClub. In addition to your free birthday food, you’ll get several coupons per year. I get at least one per month on average. You can also provide a special anniversary date for a freebie on that day. Additionally, you can list whether or not you have kids for child-friendly coupons and offers.
2. Applebee’s
The Freebie: Applebee’s offers a “free treat” for your birthday. After some searching, I found that the treat varies by location. However, it’s usually a free appetizer or a free dessert.
How To Get It: Sign up for Applebee’s eClub online. You just need to provide your name, e-mail address, and zip code to sign up. You can also choose to receive additional special offers and unique promotions. People have reported getting $5 off or 10% off coupons for orders.
3. IHOP
The Freebie: A free full stack of IHOP’s Rooty Tooty Fresh n’ Fruity pancakes. You can choose from peach, raspberry, or strawberry toppings. I receive my yearly coupon seven days before my birthday, and it expires seven days after my birthday.
How To Get It: Sign up for the IHOP Pancake Revolution online. You’ll get one coupon for free Rooty Tooty Fresh n’ Fruity pancakes when you sign up. You’ll also get two coupons per year for free pancakes – one on your birthday and one on the anniversary of your signup.
4. Denny’s
The Freebie: A free Grand Slam Breakfast coupon via e-mail during your birthday month.
How To Get It: Sign up for Denny’s Rewards. In addition to your birthday freebie, you’ll get 20% off your next visit when you sign up. Throughout the year, you’ll receive additional coupons and special offers for Denny’s Rewards members.
5. Waffle House
The Freebie: A free Classic Waffle. I found this freebie via Google; the date you receive the coupon is not readily available.
How To Get It: Sign up for the Waffle House Regulars Club online. You just need to provide your name, e-mail address, and zip code to sign up. You’ll receive occasional e-mails, coupons, and other Waffle House promotions when you sign up.
6. Einstein Bros Bagels
The Freebie: Receive a free breakfast sandwich when you purchase any drink.
How To Get It: Join The Shmear Society online for free. You just need to provide your e-mail address and phone number to get started. You’ll also get a free bagel and shmear with purchase when you sign up. Einstein Bros Bagels will also send occasional promotional deals via e-mail.
7. Buffalo Wild Wings
The Freebie: Free snack-sized wings (five wings with one choice of sauce).
How To Get It: Sign up for the Buffalo Wild Wings Buffalo Circle. You’ll get regular e-mail updates including exclusive deals and promotions. Just provide your e-mail address and zip code to sign up.
8. Red Robin
The Freebie: One free burger during your birthday month. You get to choose from 24 different gourmet burgers.
How To Get It: Join the free Red Robin Royalty program online. You’ll get many perks in addition to your free birthday meal. Every 10th item you order is free, you get $20 towards your 6th visit, and you’ll receive exclusive offers. You can join by providing your e-mail address, or you can sign up via Facebook or Twitter.
Drink and Dessert Freebies and Discounts
9. Panera
The Freebie: A free pastry or sweet during your birthday month.
How To Get It: Visit the Panera Bread website and click the My Panera link. It’s located on the top of the page. Provide a few details including your e-mail address to sign up. You can opt-in to receive e-mails for additional rewards and freebies.
10. Baskin-Robbins
The Freebie: A free 2.5-ounce scoop of ice cream or a three-ounce swirl of soft serve. I receive the coupon via e-mail about five days before my birthday.
How To Get It: Visit their website to make a free BR Account. Joining only takes a minute or two. You’ll receive e-mail promotions including BOGO offers periodically. I receive them about once a month or so. Additionally, join the BR Text Club by texting BASKIN to 31310. I get coupons and deal alerts a few times per month.
11. Noodles & Company
The Freebie: One free crispy dessert. This is the Noodles version of a rice crispy treat, and they’re pretty big! This year, I received the coupon via e-mail seven days before my birthday.
How To Get It: Sign up for the Noodles & Company eClub, Noodlegram. You just have to provide your name, zip code, e-mail, and your preferred Noodles location. I receive coupons and promotions once a month or so, too. The company also released a Noodles & Company app recently, and I’ve gotten three freebies so far.
12. Wendy’s
The Freebie: A free chocolate or vanilla Frosty. From what I’ve read, you receive the coupon for this treat during your birthday month.
How To Get It: Create a free My Wendy’s account. You’ll need to provide your name, e-mail address, and zip code. Alternatively, sign up using your Facebook or Google account. You’ll also need to create a password for your account. You’ll receive promotional discounts via e-mail, too.
13. Starbucks
The Freebie: A free drink of your choice. I typically receive the e-mail coupon within one week of my birthday.
How To Get It: You’ll need to create a My Starbucks Rewards account. The only downside is that you need a gift card to do this. But if you already drink Starbucks, get a mere $10 gift card and use it. Keep the card to register for your free account. You can also earn points for freebies and discounts via My Starbucks Rewards.
14. Dunkin’ Donuts
The Freebie: A free Dunkin’ Donuts drink on your birthday. It looks like your drink options include an iced or hot coffee, tea or latte, hot chocolate, or Coolatta in any size.
How To Get It: Join the DD Perks program online. You’ll need to provide a bit of info including your e-mail address, a password, and your name. You also get a free Dunkin’ Donuts drink just for joining DD Perks.
15. Pinkberry
The Freebie: A free Pinkberry Yogurt. It seems that you can receive and redeem the coupon on their app or via e-mail.
How To Get It: Sign up for Pinkberry’s reward program. You can join for free by downloading their app or by picking up a card at a store register. If you get the card, visit the reward’s page online to set up your account. In addition to your free birthday dessert, you can earn points for more free Pinkberry treats.
16. Orange Julius
The Freebie/Discount: A 20-ounce Julius Original or Premium Fruit Smoothie (reported by Coupon Sherpa). The Orange Julius website states you’ll get a BOGO coupon. So a purchase may be necessary.
How To Get It: Join the Julius League for free. Input your country, zip code, name, e-mail address, birthday, and gender. You’ll get a BOGO free coupon for signing up and monthly deals via e-mail, too.
Beauty Freebies and Discounts
17. Urban Decay
The Freebie: One free cosmetics item; the item that’s available changes periodically. In the past, a full-size Urban Decay eyeshadow was the freebie. It’s currently the Urban Decay After Glow Highlighter.
How To Get It: Join the UD Beauty Junkies rewards program. You’ll just need to provide your name, e-mail address, a password, your address, and your birthday month. You don’t have to earn points to actually get the birthday freebie. Aside from that, you’ll receive exclusive info about online deals and early product releases.
18. Sephora
The Freebie: One cosmetic or skincare freebie. This year, I got to choose between a Tarte Cosmetics blush and lip color set or a Caudalie moisturizer and serum set. The sets are “deluxe” samples. So they aren’t quite as big as normal products, but they’re still a great deal. My Tarte set looked to be about 50% of the size of the full-size products.
How To Get It: Sign up for the free Sephora Beauty Insider rewards program. You don’t need to earn points or make a purchase to redeem your gift in stores. To redeem it online, you’ll need to make a purchase.
19. Ulta
The Freebie: One free makeup item; the item changes on a quarterly basis. This September, the gift was an NYX full-sized eyeshadow palette. Last year, it was a full-sized Urban Decay eyeshadow valued at $18.
How To Get It: Join the free Ultamate Rewards rewards programs. You can sign up online or in-store. Aside from an Ulta birthday freebie, this program has a ton of perks. I get 20% off coupons a few times a year, alerts for flash sales, and more.
20. Tarte Cosmetics
The Freebie: The Tarte Cosmetics website simply states “a free birthday gift”. I’d imagine that it’s a deluxe sample similar to what Sephora offers.
How To Get It: Sign up for Tarte Rewards online. This program is free to use, and it only takes a minute or two to sign up. In addition to the birthday gift, you’ll get free samples with every order, free shipping on orders over $40, exclusive sales, and early access to new items.
21. bareMinerals
The Freebie: One free cosmetic item. Last year, I received a full-sized mineral eyeshadow. You’ll get an e-mail coupon that’s redeemable online or in stores.
How To Get It: Sign up for bareMinerals Friends and Benefits. In addition to a birthday freebie, you’ll get a one-time 15% off discount, early access to products, and more. Start by providing your e-mail. You can take a few minutes to build your profile. This helps you get customized offers that suit you.
22. e.l.f. Cosmetics
The Freebie: I received an e-mail for a free gift valued at $8.00. Unfortunately, I overlooked this good deal in my inbox! But it comes in the form of a coupon code via e-mail.
How To Get It: Join the free Beauty Squad program that e.l.f. Cosmetics launched in 2016. You also get a free enrollment gift and a coupon for $5 off a $20 purchase. Signup starts by providing an e-mail address and creating a password. You’ll then fill out your profile with info including your birthday.
Apparel Freebies and Discounts
The Discount: A coupon for 10% off of your entire purchase. Google results show that this birthday discount is valid as of spring 2017.
How To Get It: Subscribe to e-mails from Old Navy to get this discount. When you sign up, you’ll provide info about yourself and your shopping preferences. You also get a coupon for 30% off when you sign up for e-mails.
24. Anthropologie
The Discount: A coupon for 15% off your purchase.
How To Get It: Sign up for the free AnthroPerks program. This is a loyalty and rewards program that offers a handful of different perks. You can get early access to special deals and invitations for exclusive Anthropologie events.
25. bebe
The Freebie / Discount: bebe has an undisclosed “special birthday offer”. After some searching, it seems the offer may be a percentage discount off any purchase.
How To Get It: Join the free clubbebe rewards program. In addition to your birthday offer, you can get free gifts, earn points by doing simple tasks, and more. Start by providing your name, e-mail address, and a password. You can then build a profile and add more info.
26. American Eagle Outfitters
The Discount: A 15% off coupon to use during your birthday month. It’s unclear if this is a one-time discount or a month-long offer.
How To Get It: Sign up for the free AEO Connected program. There are lots of perks aside from the birthday offer. You can earn points for free jeans and get member exclusive offers. You get 10 points per $1.00 spent. These can be accumulated for cash discounts on AEO purchases.
27. Designer Shoe Warehouse (DSW)
The Discount / Freebie: A $5.00 gift certificate for DSW. This is more of a discount than a freebie unless you buy a small accessory or clearance item.
How To Get It: Sign up for the free DSW Rewards program. In addition to your birthday freebie, you’ll get other great offers. Examples include $10 Reward Certificates, free shipping, exclusive offers, and more.
28. The Children’s Place
The Discount: Get 20% off your purchase for your child’s birthday. You can register up to four children for this birthday freebie.
How To Get It: Sign up for the free My Place Rewards program. You just need to provide a bit of info about yourself and your shopping preferences. I’m registered for My Place Rewards, and there are several perks. You earn points for shopping, which can be used to get cash discounts. You’ll also receive e-mails about major sales about once per week.
Miscellaneous Freebies and Discounts
29. World Market
The Discount / Freebie: A coupon during your birthday month. Google showed mixed results, so the discount may change regularly. Some received a $10 off coupon, and others reported a 15% off coupon.
How To Get It: Join the free World Market Explorer program. This rewards program is pretty impressive. You’ll get a 15% off coupon for joining, exclusive coupons and discounts, and more. You can also get 10% off your next purchase when you subscribe to their e-mail list.
30. Petco
The Freebie: A free birthday treat for your pet on his or her birthday. Some sources say you receive one pound of treats, so the outcome may vary.
How To Get It: Sign up for palsrewards and complete your profile. Note that you have to fill out your profile to be eligible for the birthday treat. This free program makes you eligible for perks like personalized coupons, special discounts, a Pals Savings book, and more.
31. Redbox
The Freebie: A free one-night DVD rental. You’ll get the coupon code via e-mail around your birthday. I don’t recall how long the code is valid for, but it’s shorter than other freebies listed.
How To Get It: Sign up for Redbox Play Pass online. It only takes about one minute to sign up. If you use Redbox regularly, this free rewards system is excellent. I get promo codes for discounts, BOGO deals, and more about twice a month. You also get a 100% free rental on the anniversary of when you signed up for Redbox Play Pass.
32. Cinemark
The Freebie: A coupon for one free large popcorn. The one-time use coupon is good for your entire birthday month.
How To Get It: Create a free Cinemark Account online. You’ll start by providing your e-mail address, a password, your name, your phone number, and your zip code. You can earn rewards and receive coupons via e-mail. Downloading the free Cinemark Connections app gives you access to rewards, too.
